Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on the 19th of January. 19. 1946 into a very low-income family, with twelve kids at one point, realized that she could escape the hardships of her life by using a vivid imagination. The songs she wrote were composed before she knew how to read and write. The guitar that she first received was presented to her when she turned eighteen. The singer began her singing career at an Knoxville Tenn station by the age of 11. That same the year that Gold Band Records was a small independent record label. In high school she was able to establish herself within the local community, however her ambition was bigger. After she finished her high school, in 1964, she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female singer to join his syndicated show at this point. Parton began her career in 1967 and signed by RCA Records by 1968, and became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. However, it wasn't until 1974 when she made the decision to quit Wagoner's band because the popularity of her own solo records such as Joshua Coat, Many Colors, and Jolene had outstripped their collaborative efforts. Parton composed "I Will Always Love You" to Wagoner shortly after they separated. It hit No. For the first time, in 1974.
