Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Born and raised in the outskirts of Barcelona her music is described as an "atypical pop artist" because of her genre-bending musical styles. Her passion for music was ignited by Spanish folk music at the age of 13 years old. She studied musicology at the Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. Reimagining flamenco, mixing it with pop and hip hop music, it spawned the hit singles "Malamente" as well as "Pienso in Your Mira" that caught the attention of the Spanish general public and were released to universal applause from the critics. El Mal Querer was the first to bring Rosalia on the international music scene. Rosalia's albums of 2019 "Con Altura" (13) and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi" (12-13) were pioneers in urban music and achieved global success. Her third album, Motomami (2022), she introduced reggaeton with an original twist, departing slightly from the original flamenco sound. It featured two singles "La Fama," and "Saoko" The album became a huge success worldwide and was named the best-reviewed album of the year by Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten top one singles from her home country throughout her career. This is the highest number she's ever had for local artists. Rosalia has earned 11 Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards as well as four MTV Europe Music Awards, three UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard presented her with the Rising Star Award, in 2019, for "changing the current sound of mainstream songs with her unique flamenco pop". 18 years ago, she was also the first singer from a Spanish group to be recognized for the Best New Artist at Grammys. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Rosalia is the youngest of four children of Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who owns a tiny metalworking business. Her father, Jose Manuel Vila, was born in Cudillero, Asturias. They split in 2019. Rosalia became interested in the performing arts as a young person in particular after she was introduced to the discography of Camaron de La Isla. In the Taller de Musics, she began her music education. She completed a 6-year program in the academy. She studied at the Raval School and was later moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. [25] She also autonomously sang as an individual at weddings and bars that were musical in which she was paid "a little over 80 euros or for dinner". The time was also a time when, Rosalia met many underground Spanish performers who were later successful such as La Zowi, Yung Beef, Kaydy Cain, Hinds and Maria Escarmiento.
